The reason why I picked up this book was pretty much intrigue alone. I've read a lot of young adult books in my time, and most of those deal with mythology and fantasy. In all of those titles, I have never come across a romance that dealt with the Sandman. How could I resist? Overall, I wasn't left disappointed.
Part of why I liked this book so much is the main male character, Dair. He's the Sandman himself, and I loved him. He was sweet and dreamy (no pun intended), and just the right amount of dark and mysterious. I really liked how his role as an immortal was tied into mythology, because though it's obviously not a real story, being tied to myth makes it seem a bit more real. At least, it feels that way to me. I didn't care for the lead female, Serenity, as much. From the very beginning, she had a bit of the "special snowflake" syndrome that made me roll my eyes, but I didn't hate her. I just felt that I was made to sympathize/feel sorry for her a bit too much. I enjoyed her much more when she was with Dair, and I liked them together as a unit, despite the insta-love factor.
The writing is detailed and well done, and the pacing is too. I was never bored while reading this story, and it flowed along nicely. I was pleasantly surprised that this book deals with some angelic/Christian themes. I'm not Christian myself, so it makes me happy when these ideas are in a story without being too much or detracting from the story line in order to give a more moral message. This worked for me.

I think this book will appeal to a lot of people, because it has a lot of things going for it. It's kind of young adult, kind of new adult. It's fantasy and mythology and paranormal romance. If you like any of these things, I'd recommend giving this one a read. I'll pick up the next book in the series when it's available.
